On February 2, 2026, Food Bank for the Heartland proudly opened the doors to our new facility at 84th & L in Omaha—marking the beginning of a transformative new chapter in our mission to eliminate hunger. PROJECT BACKGROUND AND PHOTOS
After exploring an expansion, a renovation, and a move to existing buildings, it became clear that our growing mission needed a new facility. We established several requirements for a new building, and we are proud to share that our new home checks every box:
THE NEED: Greater capacity to source, store, and distribute fresh, healthy food.
THE RESULT: Our warehouse has grown by 42%, with an increase in space of 54% for dry storage, 63% for our cooler and freezer, and an incredible 514% for processing much-needed protein. Nine dock doors, a dedicated loading dock area, and a separate food donation door allow for quicker loading and delivery.
THE NEED: An enhanced volunteer experience for greater impact.
THE RESULT: Volunteers now enjoy a 90% increase in available parking spaces, and our Volunteer Center has grown by 56%, with a welcoming check-in room, expanded prep area, natural light, and custom-built equipment.
THE NEED: More spaces for our teams to safely work, collaborate, and innovate.
THE RESULT: With several meeting rooms, huddle areas, spaces for quiet work, an expanded warehouse, and a beautiful work café, our teams are well equipped to carry out our mission.
THE NEED: A greater ability to serve visitors in need of food.
THE RESULT: Thanks to our larger space, members of our SNAP Outreach Team can now work on-site to assist neighbors with the SNAP application process, and visitors can receive emergency bags of food packed in our Volunteer Center.
THE NEED: Features that allow us to be the best stewards of community support.
THE RESULT: Our new building prioritizes safety and efficiency, while providing a welcoming, comfortable space. Solar panels, air curtains, and other technologies reduce our energy costs and increase safety. Our central location provides efficient access to interstates, and a convenient destination for visitors, volunteers, and staff.
