May 30 - August 11
While their classmates are swimming and playing outdoors during summer vacation, 146,000 Nebraska children worry about finding their next meal. The summer months are especially difficult for children at-risk for hunger and their families. Forty-two percent of children receive free or reduced school lunches and are seeking other resources for meals when school is out of session.
Food Bank for the Heartland and The Omaha Salvation Army recognize this need and collaborate during the summer for the Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen program (KCK).
In its seventh year, KCK brings hot, nutritious meals free of charge to the places where children live and play such as parks, libraries and apartment complexes. Children 18 years of age and under are eligible for free meals.
Utilizing four food trucks, KCK distributes meals to 25 mobile sites in Omaha, Bellevue, Ralston, La Vista and Plattsmouth. Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen operates May 30 through August 11 during the weekdays. In 2016, KCK served over 55,000 meals.2017 KCK Schedule Donate Now 2017-05-30 11:00:00 2017-08-11 12:00:00 America/Chicago Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen - Summer 2017 Omaha Stephani Romero Sromero@FoodBankHeartland.org
